Civic Type-R to come to America? Possibly in a way.

Civic Type-R to come to America? Possibly in a way.

the civic type-r thats going to europe could cross ponds at least in some way.

2015 civic type-r

2015 civic type-r

If you have been reading about the 280HP Civic Type-R Turbo thats going to be released in 2015 in europe and you live in the USA, you’re probably quite jealous. Which is pretty easy to understand since the vehicle is projected at boasting the fastest FWD lap time on the nurburgring track. But there is hope, this vehicle may leap over to America, at least *cough cough* in one form.

Most may have noticed that the Civic Type-R is LHD. Making for a much easier leap to America. But it may not come in that form. What form it might take on is an updated CR-Z, what it will be named is to be a guess. What it will be powered by is still speculation but there has been some nods and winks along the way that are indicating the starving American Honda Performance Market may get something a little more peppy and a new CR-Z performance model could be an answer.

News have reported that some of the hotter cars that are fairing well in America such as the BR-Z/FRS has lit a fire under Honda. Not too mention it has gotten some flack for slacking off in the compact performance model dept which is what Honda was well known for dominating. Reports also lead that this new CR-Z will take cues from the research and data of the Civic Type-R in europe.

mugen cr-z

mugen cr-z

Some are saying it will be a Supercharged version, as its already been built and demonstrated with the mugen CR-Z which even made a nice stop by king motorsports for viewing. Others have reported a turbo model. Our guess is yes on a supercharged model and going by what America Normally gets is an Si. Sure a Type-r would be nice or something mugen-ized. But we are sure that there will be mugen support as there has been more recently for our US Based vehicles, albeit expensive add-ons but justly available to those who want to step up their cars a tad more or just add mugen ground effects.

They could also just slap the already potent k20/k24 platform into the CR-Z and call it a day. Those cries have been heard all the way back to the initial release of the CR-Z. The lightweight chassis and power would be quite effective. But it may remain a hybrid of some sort which Honda is building effective system after system and has the new NSX V6 Mated to a hybrid system.

Here is a video teaser that might get your hopes up. But we will still wait for more words on this. Until then be sure to contact Honda via twitter and let them know we want the Civic Type-R in America. @hondacustsvc and @honda
